Bengali Actor Rahul Banerjee Dies in Tragic Drowning—Wife’s First Statement Will Break Your Heart

Popular Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee has recently passed away at the age of 42. He was well-known for his work in the film “Chirodini Tumi Je Amar”, directed by Raj Chakraborty.

On March 29, Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee died at the age of 42 due to drowning at Talsari in Digha, near the Odisha–West Bengal border. The actor had traveled there for the filming of the Bengali television serial “Bhole Baba Par Karega”.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the afternoon, shortly after the day’s shoot had concluded. After filming wrapped up, Rahul Banerjee ventured alone into the deep waters. In a matter of moments, he disappeared beneath the surface. This caused a sudden panic among the members of the production unit, as everyone present had witnessed the tragedy unfold with their own eyes.

Technicians and crew members present at the scene immediately pulled the actor out of the deep water. He was quickly placed in a vehicle and rushed to the Digha Sub-divisional Hospital—located approximately 10 to 12 kilometers from Talsari Beach—where, at 6:10 PM, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was pronounced dead.

Bengali actor Rahul’s wife is Priyanka Sarkar. Following the actor’s death, Priyanka shared an official statement on her Instagram, writing:

“This is a time of immense grief and deep despair for us. In this difficult moment, we sincerely request space and privacy.”

“There is a child, a mother, a family, and loved ones trying to navigate this loss together. We kindly urge our friends and colleagues in the media to respect our boundaries, refrain from intrusion, and allow us the dignity to grieve in peace. Your understanding and support mean more than ever at this time.”

Speaking about this incident, Rahul’s co-actor Diganta Bagchi addressed the husband:

“After today’s shoot, he went alone to the water but somehow got entangled in something under the water… The exact circumstances are not clear. Suddenly, people, including crew members, were shouting that Rahul was drowning and we pulled him out of the water. We rushed him to Digha hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

Expressing grief over the actor’s death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said:

“I am shocked, deeply saddened to hear the news that the distinguished, young, and popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee is suddenly no longer among us. I am unable to comprehend what exactly happened. He was one of my favourite actors and a person I truly admired. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, and countless admirers.”

“Rahul’s sudden passing is an irreparable loss to the Bengali entertainment industry.”
