‘The World According to Garp’ Star Mary Beth Hurt Dies at 79

Recently, Tony Award-nominated and “The World According to Garp” actress Mary Beth Hurt passed away at the age of 79. She was well-known for her work in the Interiors (1978), The World According to Garp (1982), The Age of Innocence (1993), and Six Degrees of Separation (1993).

Mary Beth Hurt Died

On March 28, 2026, Mary Beth Hurt passed away at the age of 79 in Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S. Sharing the news on her Instagram, Mary Beth’s daughter, Molly Schrader, revealed that her mother had died on Saturday and had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Sharing a childhood photograph with her mother, Molly wrote:

“Yesterday morning we lost my mom, Mary Beth, to Alzheimer’s after a decade long battle with the disease.”

“She was an actress, a wife, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a friend, and she took on all those rolls with grace and a kind ferocity. Although we’re grieving there is some comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is reunited with her sisters in peace.”
